Natasha Urges PDP Leaders To Reconcile, Focus On 2027 Elections

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has urged leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to move past ongoing legal disputes and focus on rebuilding unity within the party.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, March 10, through her media aide, Mike Idoko, Akpoti-Uduaghan called on members to view the recent Court of Appeal ruling on the party’s national convention as an opportunity to strengthen internal democracy and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

She stressed that prolonged litigation could hinder the ambitions of grassroots members seeking to contest elections under the PDP platform.

“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a democratic party that believes in the rule of law, we must now shift our focus from litigation to reconciliation and rebuilding.

“The strength of our party lies in unity, collective purpose and our shared commitment to providing Nigerians with credible leadership,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.

Highlighting the role of political parties in facilitating citizen participation, she noted that internal disputes should not derail the aspirations of members aspiring to serve in State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, governorship positions, or the presidency.

“Our members across the grassroots must not become casualties of prolonged disagreements among leaders. Their aspirations and the future of our party must remain paramount,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also called on party leaders to adopt compromise and statesmanship, urging inclusive dialogue to organise a credible national convention in line with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.

“At moments like this, leadership demands that we rise above personal interests and focus on the greater good of our party and our nation.

“This is the time to come together, engage constructively, and organise a national convention that reflects the unity, inclusiveness and democratic values of our party,” she said.

Her appeal comes as the PDP navigates ongoing disputes over its national convention, which have triggered multiple court cases and raised tensions among factions.

Analysts note that unresolved internal conflicts could affect the party’s performance in the 2027 elections.
