Davido Opens Up On Greatest Fear, Says He Prays For Wisdom To Know When To Leave Music

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his greatest fear is not knowing the right time to step away from music, saying he constantly prays for the wisdom to exit the industry at the appropriate moment.

The award-winning singer made the disclosure during a recent video broadcast, where he reflected on the pressures of fame and the emotional struggles experienced by celebrities after their time in the spotlight.

According to Davido, he would establish a therapy centre dedicated to helping former celebrities cope with life after fame if given the opportunity.

“If there is one thing I could build, I would build a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful people. Because it is crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not,” he said.

The singer noted that sustaining success can be even more difficult than attaining it, stressing that public expectations often remain unrealistically high regardless of an individual’s achievements.

Drawing a comparison with sports, Davido cited Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo as an example of how even the most accomplished figures continue to face criticism.

“Even in soccer, you win World Cup, Champions League and other trophies and people still don’t think it is enough.

For instance, look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup,” he said.

Davido admitted that witnessing once-celebrated personalities lose relevance is deeply unsettling and described it as his biggest concern.

“That is my greatest fear. I have worked so hard for me to come and spoil it with something. I pray to God every day to show me the right time to pack it up,” he added.

The singer’s comments have added to the growing conversation about the mental health challenges faced by entertainers and professional athletes, particularly the emotional impact of maintaining relevance, managing public expectations and transitioning from life at the peak of their careers.
