Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has denied claims that he is stepping down from office, saying those responsible for spreading the report may face legal consequences.
Musa spoke on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The minister said the report caught him off guard and maintained that he had neither resigned nor held discussions about quitting his position.

He said the authorities would work to establish the origin of the claim and take appropriate action against those behind it.
Musa said his meeting with Tinubu was focused on the nation’s security situation, adding that the President was satisfied with the performance of the security agencies.
The denial followed a statement issued by the minister’s media office on Monday, July 20, 2026, rejecting reports of his purported resignation and describing them as false.
Musa reaffirmed his commitment to his duties as Defence Minister and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the military and other security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other threats to national security.
