Aloy Ejimakor, the lead attorney for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has formally raised concerns regarding the safety of his client’s current place of detention.
On Friday, the 26th of December, 2025, the legal counsel utilized his X handle to advocate for Kanu’s immediate transfer out of Northern Nigeria, citing an escalating security threat in the region.
The call for relocation was triggered by recent reports of a United States military operation targeting insurgent groups in Sokoto State. Ejimakor argued that this military intervention serves as undeniable proof that the region is a high-risk zone, making it an inappropriate location for the high-profile detainee.
According to the counsel, the presence of active terrorist cells in the vicinity creates a precarious environment that endangers Kanu’s life. He characterized the North as a “terrorist belt” and insisted that the federal authorities must act swiftly to move him to a more secure facility.

Ejimakor emphasized that the recent strikes have fundamentally changed the risk assessment for Kanu’s custody. He summarized the situation in a firm statement: “The US military strike against terrorists in Sokoto has finally confirmed that Sokoto is riddled with terrorists & thus was never a safe place of custody for MAZI NNAMDI KANU. It’s now more urgent that he be travelled outside the terrorist belt in Northern Nigeria.”
The defense lead maintains that in light of these kinetic military actions, keeping the IPOB leader in the North is no longer a viable or safe option for the Nigerian government.
