The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse in Ethiope East Local Government Area following allegations of extortion.
The DPO, whose full name was not disclosed, is accused of collaborating with two other officers, identified as Bright and Usman, to extort N2.5 million from a woman, reportedly in exchange for the release of her brother, who was in police custody.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the alleged extortion came to light after a video recording of the woman went viral. “The aggrieved woman alleged that one officer Bright, officer Usman, and the DPO Jesse extorted from her the sum of N2,500,000 with the hope that her brother, who is presently in custody, would be released,” Edafe stated.
According to the police, the brother, identified as Israel Onojeruo, aged 20, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after the youth leader of Jesse community handed over several suspects to the police. Onojeruo was implicated based on the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who said he sold a gun to him. All suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation.
