The Delta State Police Command has ordered the summary trial of two police officers accused of extorting a member of the public inside the C Division Police Station in Asaba, following a viral video that sparked public outrage.
The officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah (AP No. 262712) and Corporal Miracle Ehirim (F/No. 519970), were directed by the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, to face an orderly trial on Thursday, with the process expected to be concluded the same day.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who disclosed the development via a post on X, the outcome of the trial will be made public, as the command moves swiftly to address the allegations.
“The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered the summary trial of AP No: 262712 Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and F/No 519970 Cpl Miracle Ehirim captured on the embarrassing video.

The viral footage, which surfaced online earlier in the week, allegedly showed a man inside a police station transferring N51,500 via a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal while a uniformed officer stood beside him.
In response, the Police Complaint Response Unit confirmed that both officers have been identified, arrested, and detained, adding that the Inspector-General of Police has directed that they be brought to Force Headquarters in Abuja on April 20 for further questioning.
The unit also issued a complaint tracking number CRU000073, while reaffirming that investigations are ongoing.
The Delta Police Command has described the incident as “embarrassing,” amid growing calls for accountability within the force.
