Newly elected National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide, Sheriff Mulade, has commended the Ijaw Nation for its overwhelming support following his victory at the April 13, 2026 national elections.
Mulade, a renowned Niger Delta activist and the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, described his emergence as a collective mandate and pledged to uphold transparency and accountability in managing the congress’ finances.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Asaba, Mulade expressed gratitude to stakeholders, including the outgoing INC President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, the National Executive Council (NEC), the electoral committee led by Justice F.F. Tabai (rtd), delegates, and the wider Ijaw community for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by this mandate and remain committed to upholding the highest standards of accountability in the discharge of my duties,” he said.
The new treasurer assured that he would work closely with the executive council led by High Chief Macdonald Igbadiwei to ensure prudent financial management and strengthen the institutional capacity of the INC.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing unity, progress, and development across Ijaw communities, stressing the need to reposition the congress for greater socio-economic impact.

“As a trained environmentalist and peace advocate, I am ready to support initiatives that will enhance the role of the INC in promoting the socio-cultural and political aspirations of the Ijaw people,” Mulade added.
Beyond its traditional socio-cultural role, Mulade said the INC would explore economic initiatives aimed at empowering the people of the Niger Delta, including the establishment of agricultural ventures, fishing ports, and employment opportunities through engagement with multinational companies operating in the region.
He further commended the INC electoral committee, past and present leadership of the congress, and Ijaw leaders worldwide for ensuring a successful and credible electoral process.
Observers say his emergence signals a renewed push for institutional reform and economic empowerment within the INC as it seeks to expand its influence across the Niger Delta.
