Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during a raid in Ukwani Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.
Edafe said the operation was conducted on Saturday, August 8, following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected criminals in Owa-Abbi.
According to him, the raid was part of the command’s ongoing crime-fighting efforts in line with the initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.
He said VCRU operatives stormed a suspected criminal hideout in Owa-Abbi and arrested a 56-year-old suspect, identified as Lucky Oyiboka.
A search of the premises allegedly led to the recovery of 21 bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police spokesman said preliminary investigations indicated that Oyiboka was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
Edafe added that the investigation had been intensified to uncover the wider network and identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged drug operation.

“The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.
Oyeniyi also urged residents to provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing crime and dismantling criminal networks.
He assured members of the public that information provided by informants would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
