The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-D7G (DICON-D7G) is set to establish a dedicated military jetty in Lagos within the next two to three months, as part of efforts to strengthen defence logistics and expand indigenous military production.
The Chief Executive Officer of DICON-D7G, Mr Osman Chennar, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, August 16, following a two-day inspection tour of factories and military production facilities in Cairo by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and his delegation.
According to Chennar, the proposed facility will serve as a strategic logistics hub for the movement of raw materials, components and finished military equipment within Nigeria and across the African continent.
He said the project was expected to create significant employment opportunities for both retired military personnel and civilians when fully operational.
“DICON-D7G has planned the launching of its Military Jetty in Lagos that will provide employment to over 200 retired military personnel with over 1,000 civilians when the project takes off in the next two to three months.”
The proposed jetty forms part of a wider strategy by DICON-D7G to develop Nigeria’s domestic defence-industrial capacity and reduce the country’s dependence on imported military hardware.
The corporation is partnering with Eagles International for Defence Systems to establish local production lines for armoured vehicles, anti-drone systems and other specialised military equipment.

Chennar said the partnership would facilitate the transfer of advanced defence technologies to Nigeria while expanding the country’s ability to design, assemble and manufacture military platforms locally.
“The partnership is expected to create employment for over 200 workers, in addition to providing opportunities for approximately 100 retired military personnel.”
The planned production programme covers a range of military platforms, including the Armoured Multi-Purpose Vehicle BR6, Armoured Personnel Carrier cabin, 120mm manual mortar launcher cabin, medical evacuation and ambulance cabins.
Other platforms listed under the partnership include the MRAP-Buffalo U.10 and M.12, MRAP-Buffalo F-4, Rhino Guard GXR anti-drone and RPG-protected vehicle, APC Moon PT6, GXR Phantom light vehicle and BMP-2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
The initiative comes as the Nigerian Army continues to receive locally manufactured armoured vehicles, reflecting the government’s broader push to strengthen indigenous defence production and improve operational capacity.
Beyond its military purpose, the Lagos jetty could also provide an economic boost by supporting new jobs, developing specialised technical skills and creating a more efficient supply chain for Nigeria’s emerging defence-manufacturing sector.
DICON-D7G said the planned infrastructure would ultimately help Nigeria retain more defence spending within the domestic economy while creating the logistical capacity required to sustain military operations and potentially serve defence markets across Africa.
