Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, accusing the party of lacking the strength and direction to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
Melaye announced his decision in a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The letter, which he also shared via his official X account on Thursday, July 31, marked his immediate exit from all party-related activities.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” Melaye wrote.
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he added.
Melaye, who was the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Kogi election, said he could no longer support the party after reflecting deeply on its present course.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda,” he said.
He also asked the party to take the letter as a complete and immediate disengagement from all its organs.
“In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he stated.
Concluding the letter, Melaye appreciated the PDP for the opportunity to serve during his membership.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership,” the letter concluded.
