Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has pledged that his administration will complete all ongoing projects before leaving office in February 2028, including those inherited from previous administrations.
Speaking at the 169th session of the State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, on Wednesday, Diri said the commitment covered both his administration’s flagship initiatives and legacy projects that predated his tenure.
According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, among the projects highlighted were the Sagbama–Ekeremor road (already completed, with work progressing towards Agge), the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie road, phase one of the Nembe–Brass road, the nine-storey civil servants’ secretariat, a 25,000-capacity stadium, and a 60MW gas turbine plant.
He emphasised that funding for these “high-profile, life-changing” projects was secure, and reiterated his administration’s goal of making the headquarters of all eight local government areas accessible by road.
“Contractors handling some of these projects were inherited by this government. All the projects that are ongoing will be completed before we leave office,” he assured.
The governor disclosed that sand-filling on the Bayelsa West senatorial road between Ekeremor and Agge was ongoing, while the Yenagoa–Oporoma road and Nembe–Brass road were nearing completion. He added that the Federal Government had released 30 per cent of the contract sum for the second phase of the Nembe–Brass road.

On power supply, Diri said the new gas turbines procured by his administration would guarantee 24-hour electricity in Bayelsa by year’s end.
“Power is critical to industrialisation… Very soon the new gas turbines will arrive,” he said.
Meanwhile, the governor fulfilled his promise to reward Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi, who rejected a $17,000 bribe from a suspect. Obi, head of the Financial and Cybercrime Unit at Zone 16 Command, had earlier received the Inspector-General of Police Integrity Award and Police Officer of the Year Award for 2024.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Security 1, CP Akpoebi Agberebi (rtd), Diri presented Obi with a brand-new saloon car, following an earlier promise of a three-bedroom apartment and vehicle. The governor praised Obi’s professionalism, integrity, and contribution to peace and security in the state.
Responding, CSP Obi expressed gratitude to God, the IGP, and the governor, saying the recognition would motivate him to continue serving with integrity.
