The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a pastor for allegedly subjecting about 20 children to severe physical abuse under the guise of “spiritual cleansing.”
The incident occurred during a three-day deliverance program in Eneka community, Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Disturbing footage circulating online shows the cleric, identified as Ifediorah Joseph, whipping the children—aged between five and nine—with palm fronds while they cried in pain.
The children, stripped completely naked as part of the supposed cleansing ritual, were repeatedly struck on their heads and bodies.
After each flogging, the pastor would grab them and toss them to a church member, who caught them mid-air before placing them aside.
One parent who attempted to intervene was reportedly rebuked and chased away by the pastor, who insisted the brutal process was divinely inspired.
Acting on intelligence, operatives stormed the church, arresting the 41-year-old pastor and several members while rescuing the traumatized children.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest, stating:
“Preliminary investigations reveal that Pastor Ifediorah organized the program for ‘spiritual cleaning,’ claiming divine instruction. A thorough probe is ongoing.”
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, expressed outrage over the incident but urged the public to remain calm as investigations proceed. He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, especially minors.
“We will ensure justice is served and prevent such dehumanizing acts,” the statement read.
Authorities have encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
