Disaster Averted: Oyo Fire Service Contains Petrol Tanker Spill in Ogbomoso

A major disaster was averted on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, when operatives of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency swiftly contained a petrol tanker accident at Odo-Oba, along the Oyo–Ibadan Expressway in Ogbomoso.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m., when a 45,000-litre tanker carrying Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) lost control and overturned, spilling its contents onto the roadside.

The spill posed a significant risk of fire and explosion, but prompt action by the fire service prevented a potential catastrophe.

Chief Fire Superintendent Dairo led the response team, which immediately deployed to the scene and initiated emergency protocols.

Firefighters applied chemical foam compounds to blanket the spillage, effectively suppressing the flammability of the fuel and averting an explosion.

No fire outbreak was recorded, and properties worth millions of naira were saved.
