Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, appeared to take a subtle swipe at Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during Sunday’s interdenominational service in Port Harcourt, saying that “Dogs bark when they don’t understand.”
The service, held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, was part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, honouring fallen soldiers and praying for national security.
Speaking to congregants, Fubara said, “When we were marking the New Year day, I said something, dog barks when they don’t understand…
“The reason I don’t complain is that I know what I have, I have the Supreme, that is God. I want you to relax, what is important in this our dear state is peace, and we will get it.”

Observers noted the governor’s statement appeared aimed at Wike and his allies in the Rivers State House of Assembly, who have repeatedly challenged his administration and recently initiated the third impeachment process against him in under three years.
Fubara’s comments come as the political battle with Wike and loyalist lawmakers intensifies, particularly following the impeachment notice issued last Thursday, citing allegations of gross misconduct.
While maintaining a composed front, Fubara used the occasion to reinforce his reliance on faith and divine support, signalling that he will not be rattled by political attacks or procedural moves against his administration.
