Don Jazzy Recalls Painful Decision To Part Ways With Di’Ja

Record producer and Mavin Records boss Michael Collins Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about the emotional difficulty of parting ways with former label signee Di’Ja, describing it as one of the toughest moments of his career.

During a recent episode of the Crea8torium podcast, which gained attention online on Wednesday, the music executive spoke candidly about how challenging it was to handle the situation because of the close bond he shares with artistes under his label.

“One of the most difficult decisions of my career was when I had to let Di’ja go. That was difficult, and I don’t think I will let any artist go again by myself. Tega and Rima handle that now if they need somebody to leave the label.

Don Jazzy explained that the process became emotional for both parties, adding that Di’ja herself noticed how uncomfortable he was during the conversation.

Everybody on my record label is like my child. So, that was hard for both of us. And she [Di’ja] knew that it was hard for me. She even questioned the guys in the room why they had to involve me in that. All of us started crying. It was hard,” he recalled.

Di’Ja joined Mavin Records on February 14, 2014, and went on to release multiple singles and an EP under the label between 2014 and 2017.

In 2023, the singer addressed speculations surrounding her exit from the label, explaining that she never officially left Mavin Records but that “life happened.”
