Fubara Dismisses Defection Speculations, Reaffirms Commitment To APC

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports suggesting he has shifted political allegiance to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains firmly committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the clarification on Wednesday, May 13, after inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, which has been converted into a general hospital.

Fubara said defection speculation circulating on social media about his political position was inaccurate and should be disregarded.

“I know that there’s been a lot of drama in the media, one story and another. I’m a member of the All Progressive Congress, and nothing has changed,” he said.

“People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their personal interpretation to present me wrongly. I have not gone anywhere. I remain a member of the APC,” he added.

The governor also highlighted the motivation behind the hospital project, explaining that the decision to upgrade the facility followed the government’s assessment of healthcare challenges in the area.

He noted that residents previously had limited access to major medical services, with the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital serving as the nearest referral centre, a situation he said was not sufficient for surrounding communities.

According to him, converting the facility into a general hospital was aimed at improving access to healthcare and reducing pressure on distant medical centres.

Fubara expressed satisfaction with the completion of the project, describing it as part of his administration’s efforts to deliver infrastructure that directly benefits residents.

He added that the initiative reflects his government’s focus on practical projects that improve the welfare and quality of life of the people of Rivers State.
