Edo Gov Pays Condolence Visit to Kano Over Uromi Massacre

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, made a significant visit to the Kano State Government House on the 31st of March, 2025, offering condolences to the government and families of the 16 victims brutally slain in Uromi, Edo State, last week.

His visit unfolds against a backdrop of rising fury in northern Nigeria, where many perceive the killings as a deliberate assault on traders from the region.

The victims, mostly hailing from Kano and other northern states, fell prey to a deadly ambush in Uromi, a town within Edo’s Esan North-East Local Government Area.

Their tragic deaths have ignited widespread outrage, triggering protests in Kano, Katsina, and parts of Kaduna, as citizens demand justice and enhanced security for northerners living in the South.

In Kano, frustration is palpable. Youth groups and community leaders have pointed fingers at the Edo State government, accusing it of failing to prevent such targeted attacks. Their demand is clear immediate action to track down and punish the perpetrators.

Addressing these concerns during his visit, Governor Okpebholo reassured the Kano State government of his unwavering commitment to collaborating with security agencies to unearth those responsible for the heinous act.

He extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, affirming that no ethnic or religious group should ever be subjected to violence.

As tensions continue to escalate, the visit underscores the mounting pressure on both state and federal authorities to confront the deepening ethnic divisions and growing insecurity gripping the nation.
