Edo LP Condemns Alleged Airport Assault on Abure

The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party has strongly criticised the alleged assault on its National Chairman, Julius Abure, by social media personality Precious Oruche, also known as ‘Mama P’, at both the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and the Benin Airport.

Addressing journalists in Benin City on Monday, September 29, Edo LP chairman and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ativie, described the incident as a calculated attempt to smear Abure’s image and destabilise the party.

“At the weekend, our National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, was physically attacked by a lady believed to be working for political detractors.

“It has become imperative for us to condemn this act and clarify the misleading allegations she made against our Chairman and our party,” Ativie said.

She explained that the confrontation began on the Abuja airport tarmac while Abure was waiting to board a Max Air flight to Benin.

According to her, Oruche harassed him during the flight and escalated the attack after landing, drawing the attention of travellers at the Benin Airport.

Ativie alleged that Oruche filmed the incident and later shared the videos online to embarrass Abure and the Labour Party. She said the behaviour went beyond criticism and amounted to harassment and defamation.

“The lady, a known content creator, ignored all efforts by flight attendants to restrain her and continued her actions with the sole aim of humiliating our National Chairman,” Ativie said.

She vowed that the party would not tolerate intimidation of its leaders and confirmed that legal action would be pursued against Oruche.

“This individual has crossed the line, and we will seek justice,” she said.

Ativie further warned that allowing such actions to go unchecked could undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

She called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and identify those allegedly backing Oruche.

“Character assassination, physical assault, and cyber-bullying are grave offences. The police must uncover her sponsors and collaborators and hold them accountable,” she added.
