The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two key suspects in connection with the killing of 16 northerners in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State last week.
Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, April 1, stating that security operatives acted on credible intelligence.
“Operatives of the Department of State Security have arrested two principal suspects involved in the killing of 16 Nigerians of northern extraction in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government last week,” he said.
He added that security agencies are still tracking other suspects, while the key suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation and prosecution.

According to a security source, 14 others linked to the attack have also been moved to the Force Headquarters as investigations continue.
“I can confirm to you that the suspects have been taken to Abuja as directed by the IGP, and investigation into the matter is still ongoing,” the source said.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing between the Edo and Kano State governments regarding compensation for the victims’ families.
“As you are aware, Governor Okpebholo met with the Kano State Government and visited the families of the 16 people that were killed, where he promised compensation,” Itua said.
“I cannot say what form the compensation will take, but both state governments are talking to ensure that the victims’ families are compensated.”
Security forces remain on high alert as investigations continue, with authorities determined to bring all perpetrators to justice.
