EFCC Arrests 49 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Akwa Ibom

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Directorate, has arrested 49 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation across Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement from the commission, 31 suspects were apprehended on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Ikpa Road, Ekpri Nsukara, Nwaniba, and Shelter Afrik Extension in Uyo. The remaining 18 were arrested two days later, on Wednesday, September 24, at Oron and along the Calabar-Itu Road.

The suspects, who include undergraduates, traders, and artisans, were taken into custody following weeks of surveillance.

EFCC operatives recovered several items during the raids, including one car, 54 mobile phones, and nine laptops.

The commission said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
