Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, early morning on Tuesday, April 29, shortly after returning from London.
The arrest happened around 5 a.m., just hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered her to report to the EFCC on Tuesday and appear in court the following day, April 30.
Achimugu had been declared wanted by the EFCC in March over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
Her lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, criticised the arrest, insisting it violated the court’s instructions.

“Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday,” he said.
“She returned based on the undertaking before the court to honour the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested at the airport.”
Ojukwu also revealed that his client had begun a hunger strike to protest the arrest. “She is a prisoner of conscience,” he said.
As of the time of this report, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale had yet to comment.
