Former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has been handed the responsibility of guiding the Super Falcons on an interim basis as Nigeria begins its campaign for qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Eguavoen will take charge of the Falcons for their crucial second-round qualifying fixtures against Comoros in October, as the Nigeria Football Federation continues efforts to appoint a substantive head coach.
The experienced tactician will be supported by Nasarawa Amazons head coach Christopher Danjuma, who has considerable experience with Nigeria’s women’s national teams. Danjuma previously led the Falconets at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa has also been named as goalkeeper coach. His experience includes working with several of Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Eagles, CHAN Eagles, Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets.
Former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf will complete the coaching team as an assistant coach. Yusuf earned 68 international caps during her playing career and featured for Nigeria at four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, three FIFA Women’s World Cups and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Nigeria, one of Africa’s most successful women’s football nations, will face Comoros in a two-legged second-round tie, with both matches scheduled for the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on October 9 and 13, 2026.

The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round after being ranked among the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition. Comoros, meanwhile, booked its place after recording a 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
Nigeria must negotiate four rounds of two-legged knockout matches to secure one of Africa’s two available tickets to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Should the Falcons eliminate Comoros, they will advance to the third round, where they are scheduled to meet either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Morocco between February 23 and March 6, 2027.
The fourth round is expected to take place from October 4 to 12, 2027, while the final stage of the qualification race is scheduled for November 23 to December 4, 2027.
