Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has confirmed efforts to restore electricity in several Lagos communities following a major outage caused by a fire along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The company explained in a statement on Saturday that the disruption resulted from a vehicle collision involving a stationary gas tanker.
The fire from the accident caused extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, affecting critical conductors and overhead line equipment.
The statement read, “Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker.
The resulting fire led to significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment.
This unexpected incident has disrupted the power supply in the affected areas. Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore the power supply as quickly and safely as possible.

EKEDC identified the areas affected on the Ibeju 33kV feeder to include Medallion Feeder (including Medallion Company), Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan.
The outage follows a deadly gas explosion in the Ajah axis of Lagos, which claimed two lives and destroyed multiple properties, including warehouses and roadside shops.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Tera Ahmed bus stop, Sangotedo, after a gas tanker collided with a tipper truck.
Residents in the affected communities have been advised to exercise caution while EKEDC’s technical teams continue repair work, as efforts to safely restore power to homes and businesses are underway.
