The Delta State Government has confirmed the arrest of 11 additional suspects linked to the sexual assault of women during the recent Ozoro festival.
In a statement shared on X on Saturday, the government said the arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
The statement partly read, “Police investigations into the disturbing incidents in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, have recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of eleven additional suspects. Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, the CP Special Assignment Team carried out a detailed investigation, analysing video evidence and intelligence. This led to the arrest of suspects, including Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others.”
Authorities emphasized that the acts were committed by criminal elements who exploited the festival to perpetrate sexual violence and do not represent any legitimate cultural practice. The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to identifying all individuals involved and ensuring they face justice.

Victims and witnesses have been encouraged to come forward with information, with the assurance that their confidentiality will be protected.
Earlier reports indicated that five individuals, including the community head and chief organiser of the Ozoro festival, had already been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assaults during the annual event.
