El-Rufai Brothers’ Feud Deepens As Bashir Threatens To ‘Destroy’ Bello

The public rift between Bashir El-Rufai and his elder brother, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, appears to have intensified, with Bashir again issuing a threat against the lawmaker.

Bashir, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, took to his X account on Saturday to attack Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The latest development adds to an ongoing family dispute whose precise cause remains unclear, although Bello’s political choices, particularly in Kaduna State, have been linked to the disagreement.

In his latest post, Bashir issued a direct threat against his elder brother, writing, “I will destroy you & climb my bed and sleep peacefully.”

The statement immediately attracted reactions from social media users, with some expressing concern over the increasingly public nature of the dispute between the brothers.

A politician, Uche Rochas, responded by cautioning Bashir against threatening his own sibling.

“If you destroy your brother, no one will see you as a hero. The more you try to destroy him, the more you destroy yourself and drag your family’s name through the mud,” Rochas wrote.

He also offered to speak with Bashir privately, saying, “If you need someone to talk to, I am here.”

Bashir responded to the intervention by apologising to Rochas while maintaining his position.

“Sorry sir. Had to be said,” he replied.

Another X user, Dr Ibrahim Yaji, also condemned the threat, questioning the wisdom of publicly attacking a member of one’s immediate family.

“I kept telling my friend earlier that the joke is on Bashir . I can never trust anybody who can do this to his own blood,” Yaji wrote.

He added that even serious disagreements within families should not result in attempts to destroy one’s sibling.

Bashir, however, dismissed Yaji’s position, responding, “That’s you o. And I’m sure you had a good brother.”

The exchange has further exposed the depth of the disagreement between the two brothers, with their dispute increasingly playing out publicly on social media.

The brothers are sons of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who governed the state between 2015 and 2023.

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai currently serves as a member of the House of Representatives, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency.

While the specific circumstances behind the brothers’ feud remain unclear, the latest exchange has generated renewed public interest in their relationship, particularly given their family’s prominent position in Nigerian politics.
