El-Rufai Wiretap Allegations: APC Chieftain Confirms Admission

Ayekooto Akindele, a notable figure in the All Progressives Congress, APC, has commented on reports that wiretapping devices were allegedly found at the Abuja home of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, saying such a discovery “shouldn’t be surprising.”

Earlier reports claimed that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, recovered suspected wiretapping equipment, which could intercept private conversations and access sensitive security documents, from El-Rufai’s residence.

El-Rufai’s family, however, issued a statement on Monday, the 2nd of March, 2026, refuting the claims, insisting that no such devices were present in the house.

Responding on X, Ayekooto said the allegation aligns with what El-Rufai himself had admitted publicly. He wrote: “There’s no point for anyone saying that no wiretapping equipment was found in El-Rufai’s house.

No point whatsoever. And saying that ICPC raised the allegation because of El-Rufai’s silence is also ridiculous. Distinguished Mallam El-Rufai himself had openly confessed on AriseTv Live Interview that ‘We listen to the calls of NSA’. So, El-Rufai has never been silent on this matter and finding wiretapping equipment in his house, as alleged, shouldn’t come to anyone as a surprise.”
