Enugu Attorney General Udeh Gets Senate Approval as Minister

The Senate has endorsed Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, as a minister of the Federal Republic.

Lawmakers gave their approval on Thursday, the 6th of November, 2025,after he took questions during a full Committee screening session.

During the session, Dr Udeh pledged to serve diligently if sworn into the Federal Executive Council, FEC. He highlighted his background, telling senators that with his strong footing in research and academics, years of governance experience, and work as a developmental expert, he is prepared to contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

A question from Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) focused on US President Donald Trump’s description of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern, CPC.” Udeh stressed that the issue is being managed diplomatically. He said: “His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is already responding very well to that issue. Appointment of ambassadors and mobilising them immediately is crucial, because it is more a matter of diplomacy than law.”

When the screening ended, Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for a voice vote, and senators supported the nomination without opposition. He commended Udeh, saying: “Let me thank Mr President for the nomination of Dr Kingsley Udeh. He appears to be fit and proper to be a minister. He has acquitted himself as a well-bred Nigerian child, acknowledging his parents. I hope he will bring his wealth of experience to add value to the federal cabinet and realise the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President.”

President Tinubu had earlier written to the Red Chamber asking the Senate to confirm Udeh as the nominee from Enugu State. He is expected to take the place of Uche Nnaji, who stepped down as Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology after facing allegations of certificate forgery.
