Preparations are in top gear for the formal defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.
The event, scheduled to hold at the Michael Okpara Square, is expected to attract prominent APC figures, including governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, and top party executives who will formally receive Governor Mbah into the ruling party.
Sources close to the Government House confirmed that planning committees have been meeting over the past week to finalise logistics for the ceremony.
The move follows a series of closed-door meetings between Mbah and senior APC leaders in both Abuja and Enugu, heightening political activity in the state.
According to a senior government aide who spoke on condition of anonymity, the governor’s decision is driven by the need to align Enugu State with the federal government for greater access to national projects and resources.
“Governor Mbah believes collaboration with the party at the centre will help fast-track key infrastructure and development goals for the state,” the aide said.

While the PDP leadership in Enugu has yet to issue an official statement, insiders within the party described the governor’s planned defection as a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts view the development as part of a wider realignment in the South-East region, where several influential politicians have recently joined the APC in what appears to be a bid to strengthen regional representation at the federal level.
Governor Mbah, who assumed office under the PDP platform in May 2023, will become the latest South-East governor to cross over to the ruling party.
The defection rally is expected to draw a large crowd and tight security as the political landscape in Enugu braces for a major shake-up.
