Ex‑NIWA MD Bola Oyebamiji Emerges Osun APC Gov Candidate

Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The announcement was made on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the party’s primary venue in Osogbo.

Oyebamiji’s emergence followed extensive consultations among party leaders and aspirants aimed at fostering unity within the APC.

Several governorship hopefuls, including Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, moved motions supporting his candidacy during the exercise.

Prior to the consensus, a number of aspirants voluntarily stepped down after discussions with party stakeholders, clearing the way for Oyebamiji.

Having resigned from NIWA in November 2025 to pursue his gubernatorial ambition, Oyebamiji brings extensive public and private sector experience to his campaign.

Party leaders and former aspirants have pledged to work with him to strengthen the APC’s position ahead of the state election, scheduled for August 8, 2026.

Oyebamiji’s selection reflects the APC’s strategy to present a united front in Osun State, where political contests have historically been highly competitive.

His candidacy is expected to shape the party’s campaign dynamics as preparations intensify across the state.
