A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing the need for broader political growth and the continuation of his commitment to public service.
Ochei confirmed his resignation in a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Austin Edemodu, in Asaba.
According to the former lawmaker, his decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection on his political future.
Ochei recalled that he joined the APC in 2016 and contributed significantly to the party’s development through grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across the state.
“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilised support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he stated.

The former Speaker explained that his decision to leave the ruling party was driven by his desire to continue pursuing his political convictions and vision for public service.
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” Ochei said.
He, however, maintained that his resignation was not motivated by bitterness, resentment or personal grievances against any individual within the party.
Ochei also appealed to his supporters and political associates to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to democratic principles.
The former Speaker did not disclose the political platform he intends to join next, fueling speculation about his future political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
