Ex-Manager Urges Enugu Government to Support Late Mr Ibu’s Children

The former manager of late Nollywood comic icon, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to the Enugu State Government to extend educational support to the actor’s children through scholarship opportunities.

Mr Dominic Nwuzor, Chief Executive Officer of Don Singles International and long-time manager of the late entertainer, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja. Nwuzor managed Mr Ibu for over two decades before the actor’s death in March 2024.

He called on the Enugu State Government to consider the children of the late actor, who hailed from Nkanu West Local Government Area, as part of its broader efforts to strengthen education through targeted scholarships for vulnerable groups.

According to Nwuzor, providing scholarships for Mr Ibu’s children would help secure their future and ensure they acquire the education needed for self-reliance in the absence of their father, whose humour and talent brought joy to millions of Nigerians.

“We have appealed for scholarship opportunities for the children, and we will continue to do so, so that something can be done,” he said.

Nwuzor expressed confidence in the disposition of Governor Peter Mbah, describing him as a leader with a strong commitment to education and social welfare. He noted that the governor’s ongoing investments in education across the state offer hope that the appeal would receive positive consideration.

Mr Ibu, one of Nollywood’s most recognisable comic actors, was widely celebrated for his contributions to the Nigerian film industry. Since his passing, tributes have continued to pour in, with many calling for sustained support for his family in recognition of his legacy and impact on Nigerian entertainment.
