Eyo Elemoro Takes Centre Stage as 2025 Lagos Eyo Festival Holds

The 2025 Lagos Eyo Festival is holding today, Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), with Eyo Elemoro leading the traditional proceedings as thousands of participants and spectators gather on Lagos Island for the iconic cultural celebration.

Also known as the Adamu Orisha Play, the festival features white-clad Eyo masquerades parading through designated routes across Lagos Island, each carrying the symbolic Opambata staff, before converging at TBS for the central rites under the leadership of Eyo Elemoro.

The festival’s return follows an eight-year hiatus and is being held in honour of notable Lagosians, including the late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande and Sir Michael Agbolade Otedola, in recognition of their contributions to public service and the development of Lagos State.

Ahead of the event, the Lagos State Government announced traffic diversions and movement restrictions across key Lagos Island corridors, including sections of the Third Mainland Bridge, Obalende, CMS and Marina, to ensure public safety and smooth flow of activities.

Deeply rooted in Yoruba tradition, the Eyo Festival symbolises peace, continuity and respect for Lagos’ cultural heritage, while also serving as a major attraction for residents, tourists and cultural enthusiasts.
