The Federal Government, through the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has issued an apology to passengers and other airport users following a power failure at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, over the weekend.
FAAN, which manages the airport, disclosed in a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, the 1st of February, 2026, that the incident was traced to a technical fault in the terminal’s changeover circuit.
The authority explained that the disruption occurred during a routine power switch process, which led to a temporary loss of electricity supply at the terminal.
It added that engineers and technical personnel were promptly mobilised to address the situation, transfer power supply to an alternative grid, and activate interim backup systems to ensure that operations resumed as quickly as possible.
