Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has faulted recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, saying the United States has no history of rescuing any nation in times of conflict.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Wednesday, Falana criticized Trump’s comments as both condescending and misleading.
Trump had recently directed the Pentagon to “prepare for action” following reports of killings of Christians in Nigeria, a move that has sparked widespread debate.
Reacting, Falana dismissed Trump’s stance as hypocritical, arguing that the U.S. often exploits crises rather than resolving them.
“The United States has never come to the rescue of any nation during violent conflicts,” Falana stated. “Trump’s comments reflect his deep contempt for Africans and show a lack of understanding of our realities.”

The senior lawyer noted that African nations must take responsibility for their own peace and development rather than depend on foreign intervention.
“We must not allow external powers to dictate our affairs under the guise of humanitarian concern,” he added.
Falana’s remarks come amid growing global reactions to Trump’s statement, which many have described as inflammatory and politically motivated.
