Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has denied reports suggesting he held a private political meeting with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence.
In a statement released by his media aide, Ahmad Sajo, Fayemi described the claims as a “blatant lie” and urged the public to ignore them, noting that the report would likely come as a surprise to Kwankwaso as well.
The allegations included an old video showing Fayemi greeting Kwankwaso at his home.
Fayemi clarified, “Dr Fayemi has only met Senator Kwankwaso once in the last one year, and that occasion was at the public book launch of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN).”

He stressed, “At no time has Dr Fayemi held, or is he holding, any closed-door political meeting with Senator Kwankwaso as suggested by the post.”
While acknowledging their long-standing friendship, Fayemi emphasised that their relationship is personal and non-partisan, built on mutual respect and a shared concern for the nation’s development rather than political collaboration.
The former governor also warned against attempts to politicise personal relationships, noting that his network includes friends across Nigeria’s political spectrum, many of whom are not politically active.
Fayemi’s statement seeks to end speculation and reinforce that his interactions with Kwankwaso have been entirely public and personal, with no secret political agenda.
