FCT Education Secretary Reinstated, Promises Completion of School Projects by Early 2026

The FCT Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, has resumed office following a three-week suspension, pledging full commitment to the administration’s educational objectives and revealing plans to complete numerous school renovation projects by early 2026.

Speaking to journalists on Monday after his reinstatement, Hayyo expressed gratitude to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his reinstatement and assured total loyalty in advancing the government’s education agenda.

Hayyo disclosed that over 100 public secondary schools have already been fully renovated under the ongoing rehabilitation programme, with several more projects either underway or nearing completion. “We expect that by the first quarter of 2026, about 60 to 70 per cent of the school renovation projects will be completed and ready for inauguration by the minister,” he said.

He hailed the achievement as unprecedented, noting that no other regime in the FCT has undertaken such extensive school transformations. “I do not think there is any other state that can compete with the FCT in terms of infrastructural and physical facilities in schools,” Hayyo added.

On the circumstances surrounding his suspension, he explained it followed the circulation of an unauthorized circular by a director ordering early school closure over alleged security concerns. “No director has the authority to issue such directives without approval from the mandate secretary or the minister,” he emphasized.

Hayyo also highlighted the importance of capacity building, announcing plans for refresher training for both new and existing directors within the education secretariat. “They must understand their mandates, how to carry out their duties, and when to consult their superiors,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Hayyo was suspended on November 25 and reinstated on December 17 by Minister Wike, marking a return to leadership amid ongoing efforts to upgrade educational infrastructure in the territory.
