Wike Flags Off Rehab of 73 Schools, 15km Old Keffi Road Project in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has unveiled plans to renovate 73 Government Secondary Schools across Abuja.

He said the effort aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which targets improvements in education and public infrastructure.

Wike made this known on Tuesday, the 7th of October, 2025, during the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road, spanning Kado Village to Dei-Dei. He noted that both projects represent President Tinubu’s commitment to keeping his word to Nigerians.

“Out of 103 Government Secondary Schools in the FCT, 73 are currently under rehabilitation, and 33 more projects will soon begin,” Wike explained. “This government is working hard to make life better for Nigerians, especially the people of Abuja.”

He said the Old Keffi Road reconstruction is among several major projects approved by the President to ease traffic, strengthen connectivity, and support economic growth in the capital.

Wike recalled that one of the first emergency works approved by the President in 2023 was the Saburi 1 and Saburi 2 road rehabilitation, noting that the new project fulfills a promise made at that time.

“When we opened the Saburi Road, I said it would only be complete if the Old Keffi Road was also fixed. Today, we are here to make that promise a reality,” Wike said.

According to him, Lubrik Construction Company was again selected for the Old Keffi Road project because of its proven quality and technical expertise in handling the Saburi Road works.

Wike also commended the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, describing him as a “true representative” of his constituents, and urged residents to continue backing him.

He appealed to Abuja residents to stand by the Tinubu administration and ignore politicians who previously failed in governance.

“We gave them chances before and they disappointed us. If we give them another, they will destroy everything,” he warned.

The Minister announced that 27 additional projects are set to be launched across the FCT, calling it a record milestone that demonstrates the President’s focus on development. He instructed the construction firm to employ local residents from nearby communities so they can directly benefit from the project.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for backing initiatives that touch the lives of citizens. She described the Old Keffi Road as a critical link that eases movement, connects communities, and stimulates business activities.

She also praised Wike for his leadership, saying the project reflects the administration’s plan to improve access and promote inclusive development across the FCT.
