The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, who died following an armed robbery in Abuja.
Maduagwu, fondly known as Sommie, lost her life on Monday when armed robbers invaded her residence in the Kamtape area of the capital city.
In a desperate attempt to escape, she reportedly jumped from her fourth-floor apartment. She and a security guard injured during the attack were later confirmed dead in hospital.
In a statement on Tuesday, September 30, police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the incident.
He also directed the deployment of intelligence and operational units to track down the assailants.

“Describing the incident as a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society, the Commissioner of Police assured that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring that justice is served,” the statement reads.
The commissioner extended his condolences to Maduagwu’s family, friends, and colleagues, calling the incident a devastating loss.
He also urged Abuja residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
“He charged all FCT residents to always ensure they raise prompt alarm in every suspicious situation with a view to denying criminal elements in our society, opportunity to carry out their evil plans,” Adeh added.
The FCT Police Command assured the public that it is committed to both bringing the perpetrators to justice and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
