The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with an attempt to disrupt the announcement of results during the Student Union Government (SUG) election at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
The incident occurred on Tuesday while election results were being announced. The suspects allegedly fired gunshots to disperse the crowd, resulting in one student being struck by a bullet. The victim was rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he is receiving medical attention.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.

Incidents of violence during student union elections have become a recurring concern. In July, several students sustained injuries when the Students’ Union Government election at Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, turned violent, with gunshots, tear gas, and reports of students wielding weapons to disrupt the process.
