The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against four police officers accused of abandoning their official duty posts and allegedly extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, who said the officers have been ordered to face an orderly room trial.
The officers identified are ASP Clement Ehigala, ASP Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.
According to the police, the incident occurred on July 11, 2026, at about 3:34 p.m., when the officers allegedly abandoned their assigned duty posts and moved to the Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja, where they carried out an unauthorised traffic enforcement operation.
The command alleged that during the operation, the officers stopped a motorist over an alleged traffic violation and extorted ₦52,000 from him. The victim was later identified as the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN).

Following a complaint, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial over allegations of abandoning their lawful assignments, conducting illegal traffic enforcement and engaging in extortion.
The police said disciplinary proceedings are already underway in accordance with established police regulations, stressing that the command remains committed to professionalism, accountability and a zero-tolerance stance against misconduct by its personnel.
The latest action follows an earlier disclosure by the police commissioner that the officers had been arrested after allegedly extorting the ICPC chairman during an illegal stop-and-search operation around the Banex area.
Sanusi had condemned the officers’ conduct, describing them as unworthy of wearing the police uniform. He alleged that they deserted their official posts to set up an illegal checkpoint and extort unsuspecting motorists, warning that any officer found guilty would face severe disciplinary measures, including possible dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.
