FCT Police Redeploy DPO After Viral Assault Video

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Miller Dantawaye, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer in Ushafa.

This directive was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the 23rd of October, 2025, by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.

“This decision follows the circulation of a video on X (formerly Twitter) depicting the DPO slapping a young man on Wednesday.

“The CP strongly condemned the officer’s actions, which fall short of the high standards of discipline, civility, and professionalism expected of police officers,” she said.

According to Adeh, the Commissioner has made it clear that such misconduct will not be tolerated under his watch. The officer, she added, has been recalled to the FCT Police Command Headquarters pending an investigation into the incident.

“While administrative disciplinary steps are being taken, the CP has reminded all DPOs and their subordinates that they must remain professional, courteous, and law-abiding in the discharge of their duties. The CP has warned that any act of misconduct or abuse of power will attract severe sanctions,” Adeh stated.

She also emphasized that the Commissioner urged members of the public to maintain civility and respect when dealing with police officers, stressing that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community policing and public safety.

Residents were encouraged to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the police using the FCT Command emergency lines: 08061581938, 08032003913, and 08107314192.
