The Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Friday, October 31, 2025, directing all parties in the matter to maintain the status quo pending the determination of a suit filed by some aggrieved officials of the party.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025, was filed by Austin Nwachukwu, chairman of the PDP in Imo State; Amah Abraham Nnanna, chairman of the PDP in Abia State; and Turnah George, the party’s South-South zonal secretary.
The plaintiffs, through their counsel, argued that the convention arrangements violate provisions of the PDP constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022.
They asked the court to halt all preparations, claiming that some delegates were not duly elected and that the process lacked transparency.
Justice Omotosho ruled that none of the parties should take any further step that could render the case ineffective.
He noted that the order was necessary to prevent the parties from pre-empting the court’s decision on the substantive suit.
The judge stated: “Parties are hereby ordered to maintain the present status quo until the matter is fully heard and determined.
No action should be taken that will render the outcome nugatory.”
The court had earlier declined an ex parte application seeking an immediate injunction but ordered that all parties be put on notice.

Following submissions from the plaintiffs and the PDP’s legal team, led by Chief Chris Uche (SAN), the court fixed the matter for further hearing.
The PDP had announced plans to hold its national convention in Ibadan to elect new members of its National Working Committee and review the party’s internal processes ahead of future elections.
The restraining order, however, means the party must suspend all preparations until the court reaches a final decision.
A statement from the party’s National Publicity Department described the suit as “the handiwork of a few aggrieved members” and urged loyalists to remain calm while the matter is resolved in court.
The case is expected to come up again in November 2025 for continuation of hearing.
