The Federal Government has begun moving Nigerians who want to leave Iran, escorting them through the Armenian border as tension grows in the Middle East.
The update came on Tuesday, the 10th of March, 2026, from the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
She shared the information in a post on her X account.
According to her, staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are handling the evacuation and helping Nigerians who have chosen to exit the country.
Those leaving are being guided to the Armenian border, where steps have been arranged to help them cross safely.
The action follows rising concern over security in the region after coordinated military strikes carried out on Iran by the United States and Israel on the 28th of February.
The strikes led to counter missile and drone attacks across several parts of the Middle East, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict.

Dabiri-Erewa said Nigerians in Iran have not been harmed despite the tension.
She added that embassy staff remain stationed at the border to assist anyone choosing to leave.
“Willing Nigerians being escorted across the Armenian border by officials of the Nigerian embassy in Iran for safe passage. No Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the war as officials remain at the border to receive all who want to leave,” she wrote.
The evacuation comes as military exchanges continue among the United States, Israel and Iran.
