Kano Gov Relieves Head Of Service, Appoints Successor

Abba Kabir Yusuf has removed the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, from office with immediate effect.

The move forms part of steps by the administration to reshape the state civil service.

Musa had already completed his tenure as a civil servant in 2024.

The government kept him in the role despite debates surrounding the extension of his stay in office.
He continued to oversee the activities of the state civil service during that period.

A statement released on Tuesday evening, the 10th of March, 2026, by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that the government has now decided to end his appointment.

The statement said the action aligns with ongoing steps aimed at restructuring the civil service for better discipline and improved service across government offices.

Governor Yusuf also thanked the former Head of Service for the work he carried out while serving the state.

“We wish him the best in his future endeavours and pray for his continued success in all aspects of life.”

The governor named Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, as Acting Head of Service.

She will oversee the office until a substantive appointment is made.

Musa has been directed to hand over official duties to the acting Head of Service by Wednesday, the 11th of March, 2026.
