The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on Monday in Abuja through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
While congratulating Nigerians at home and abroad, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and resilience that have kept the country together since gaining independence in 1960.
He further encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national rebirth, economic transformation, and shared prosperity.

The minister expressed optimism that with collective effort, the nation would continue to achieve greater peace, progress, and development.
He wished all Nigerians a joyful and memorable Independence Day celebration.
