In scenes of jubilation and national pride, Nigeria on Monday welcomed home the Super Falcons, champions of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, after their dazzling display in Rabat, Morocco.
The squad, now ten-time winners of the tournament, returned to an official reception steeped in celebration and recognition.
At the heart of the festivities was a powerful message from the Federal Government, conveyed by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
“This victory is more than just a sporting achievement,” he declared. “It’s a shining emblem of the resilience, excellence, and unyielding spirit of the Nigerian people.”
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Idris commended the team’s unity, discipline, and drive, noting that their performance has once again placed Nigeria’s name at the pinnacle of African women’s football.
“The Super Falcons have done what few teams can — etched their legacy in gold,” he stated.
The government’s tribute extended to every individual involved in the victory — from players to coaches to the technical staff — recognizing their collective commitment that powered Nigeria’s triumph.
In an emotional highlight of the celebration, Idris emphasized the broader significance of the win: “Beyond the trophy, the Super Falcons have inspired a new generation of Nigerians. Their story is a reminder that sport remains a potent force for national unity and hope.”
As part of the official festivities, the government rolled out a victory parade through the streets of Abuja.

The ceremonial procession began at the iconic City Gate, passed through Eagle Square, and concluded at the Presidential Villa, where President Tinubu welcomed the team.
Waving flags and singing anthems, fans lined the route in their thousands to cheer the Falcons, who were draped in green and white and proudly held the coveted WAFCON trophy aloft.
In line with the victory, Minister Idris also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s pledge to boost investment in Nigeria’s sports infrastructure and athlete welfare.
“We will continue to create the right environment and provide adequate resources so that Nigerian athletes can compete — and win — on the global stage,” he assured.
With their 10th WAFCON title now secured, the Super Falcons continue to dominate African women’s football, carving a legacy that generations to come will admire.
“Welcome home, champions,” the government’s statement concluded. “You have made Nigeria proud — once again.”
