The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has officially commenced the construction of its Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, marking a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to provide affordable housing for Nigerians.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Uyo, was performed by Governor Umo Eno and attended by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the FHA, Oyetunde Ojo, alongside other dignitaries.
In a statement issued on Friday by the FHA’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Chigelu, Ojo commended Governor Eno for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Akwa Ibom residents, particularly in the area of housing. He recalled the governor’s early support for the project, which included the free allocation of land and an assurance of continued collaboration to ensure its success.
Ojo explained that the decision to flag off the Renewed Hope Housing Programme in Akwa Ibom was a deliberate move to acknowledge the governor’s partnership and goodwill. “We are beginning the fulfilment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to renew the hope of Nigerians by providing livable and affordable houses. The importance of decent shelter cannot be overemphasised as far as productivity and quality of life are concerned,” he said.
According to him, the FHA has completed procurement processes for housing projects across the six geopolitical zones, with similar groundbreaking ceremonies scheduled for Kaduna, Abia, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Adamawa states. He added that the authority has also been completing and commissioning inherited projects in line with President Tinubu’s directive that the era of abandoned projects must end.
Describing the Akwa Ibom project as more than a housing estate, Ojo said it represents “a livable and affordable environment that embodies the signature of the Federal Housing Authority.” He praised Governor Eno for providing a platform that has enabled the FHA to establish a presence in Akwa Ibom for the first time in over five decades, noting that the project’s value chain would generate employment and stimulate local economic growth.
In his remarks, Governor Eno thanked President Tinubu for approving the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme and the FHA for selecting Akwa Ibom as the launch site. He stated that the initiative aligns with his administration’s goal of partnering with the Federal Government to bridge Nigeria’s housing deficit and promote sustainable development.

“Our civil servants are dear to us, which is why we are doing so much in the area of housing. We have the Aviation City, Judicial City, Legislative, and Executive estates — all built to accommodate our people,” the governor said.
Eno assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and pledged to provide security and infrastructure to ensure the project’s speedy completion.
The Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, a flagship initiative of President Tinubu’s administration, seeks to address the nation’s housing deficit and promote inclusive home ownership. Implemented through the Federal Housing Authority and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the programme targets low- and middle-income earners, while also supporting job creation, strengthening local industries, and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable cities and communities.
