Fire Breaks Out at Bayelsa Secretariat, Quickly Contained by Workers

A fire incident on Wednesday caused panic at the Bayelsa State Secretariat after two large generators went up in flames.

The fire, which broke out in the generator house of the complex, sent workers and visitors scampering for safety as thick smoke billowed across parts of the facility.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started suddenly but was quickly tackled by staff members on site, who used available extinguishers and water sources to contain the flames before the arrival of the state fire service.

“The workers acted fast. They managed to put out the fire about eight minutes before the fire service got here,” one civil servant at the scene said.
