In a strategic move to ramp up revenue generation, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed all its tax offices across Nigeria to operate during weekends throughout the month of June.
The directive, issued by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, mandates that tax offices remain open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays to assist taxpayers in meeting filing deadlines and enhance service delivery.
According to a statement released by Adedeji’s Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, the extended hours are part of the agency’s efforts to align its operations with a more customer-friendly approach and respond effectively to the rising demands of the tax season.
“With the end of the financial year fast approaching and June 30th being the statutory deadline for filing Company Income Tax returns, this move is designed to ease the process for taxpayers, maximise compliance, and boost revenue,” the statement read.
The extension comes on the heels of a notable surge in company income tax submissions as businesses rush to meet their obligations before the filing window closes.

In 2024, FIRS recorded ₦21.6 trillion in total revenue and has set an ambitious ₦25.2 trillion target for 2025.
The extended working hours are seen as part of broader efforts to close the gap and support the implementation of Nigeria’s ₦54.99 trillion budget for 2025.
The FIRS chairman reiterated his commitment to transforming the agency into a more efficient and citizen-focused institution, stressing that improved access and convenience for taxpayers will remain a core priority.
The decision to extend operations during weekends is expected to significantly reduce last-minute congestion and provide businesses with more flexibility in fulfilling their tax responsibilities.
