The Abia State Government has confirmed reports of security breaches in Umunneochi Local Government Area, disclosing that the attacks led to loss of lives in affected communities.
This confirmation follows earlier reports that bandits stormed parts of Isuochi, a town in Umunneochi LGA, leaving residents in fear and triggering concerns over growing insecurity in the region.
Briefing journalists on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, described the situation as “serious” but assured the public that the government was fully mobilizing its security apparatus.
“There have been some security breaches in the Umunneochi area of the state, leading to some fatalities,” Kanu said. “The state’s security agencies have been put on full alert as the government will leave no stone unturned in addressing these breaches.”
He reaffirmed Governor Otti’s commitment to protecting every part of Abia, declaring that the state would not cede any territory to criminals.
On a separate note, Kanu addressed public health concerns, stating there were no outbreaks of diphtheria, Mpox, cholera, or Lassa fever in the state.

He also revealed that over 91,000 people have so far registered under the Abia State Social Health Insurance Scheme.
In a boost to infrastructure development, the Commissioner announced that four new housing estates — located at Mgbarakuma, Obehie, Mbaisi, and Valley View — would soon be flagged off by the state government.
The developments come at a time when residents in Umunneochi and nearby areas are demanding greater government presence and proactive security interventions to safeguard lives and property.
